The Michigan Motorsports 1997–2003 LS1 Head Gasket and Bolt Kit provides everything you need for a top-end rebuild or cylinder head replacement on early Gen 3/4 LS engines. Featuring premium MLS gaskets and OEM-style head bolts, this kit delivers the reliability and sealing performance you expect for both stock and high-performance builds.
Kit Includes
- (2) LS1 MLS head gaskets – GM #12498544 – fits most 4.8L, 5.3L, and 5.7L LS builds
- (2) complete sets of early-style head bolts – 8 long and 2 short bolts per cylinder head
Fitment Notes
- Designed for 1997–2003 GM LS-based engines using early-style head bolts
- In early 2004, GM changed to a uniform short-length head bolt design—verify your application before ordering

- Direct replacement for LS1/LS6 GM head gasket #12589226
- MLS (Multi-Layer Steel) construction for superior sealing and durability
- Produced by the same source as OEM GM gaskets
- Bore size: 3.920"
- Thickness: .051"
NOTE: On these engines it is highly recommended to clean out the head bolt threads in the block with a chaser such as ARP 912-0011 (click here) due to the thread compound that was used on the factory bolts. Failure to do so can result in new fasteners stretching or breaking before reaching final torque.
